Royal Memorabilia and Royal Souvenirs Are Products in Great Demand

The tourist industry has grown enormously with the rise in commercial flights whether scheduled or charter and the associated increase in the numbers of people flying away on holiday. Everyone now has access to the places the last generation only saw on televisions and the previous ones perhaps only read about in books.

The mind is a wonderful thing and memories and images in the mind are able to picture the sights that have been seen and the events that occurred. Photographs, both printed and now stored on computers are one way to jog the memory but another is the memento of a place or an occasion.

London has always been a favourite destination for visitors and tourists from abroad. Its attractions go beyond the historical buildings, its theatre and nightline being a draw to overseas tourists and locals alike.

Our monarchy is a big draw to the overseas visitor and royal memorabilia and royal souvenirs are products in great demand for tourists.

Souvenirs are bought to remember a place itself, memorabilia perhaps a special event in time and the trade in such things is growing each year. There are few places like the UK where the monarchy is such an integral part of what the country is and how it is represented. Monarchies exist in other countries in countries as diverse as Holland, Jordan and Swaziland.

It is the UK that people will quote when asked questions about monarchy. Royal memorabilia when a special event in the family such as a wedding takes place are in great demand from both overseas visitors and the locals because they represent the event rather than the place. Royal souvenirs on the other hand have fairly constant sales, more likely to the overseas visitor than the local.

People travelling from the UK abroad bring different things back with them. The Far East produces a vast array of things, whether little ornaments and statues, a visit to Egypt can be remembered by perhaps an image of a pharaoh, to sub Saharan Africa anything from a wooden carving to a painted ostrich egg.

There is a very sophisticated modern industry in many parts of the World, it's just necessary to go to the USA to see how sophisticated, but in other countries the production of mementoes is a cottage industry. Hours of work may go into an intricate carving and certainly into the carpets that visitors to Turkey or India may purchase. Whatever the cost or sophistication, the memory the item represents can be treasured in a visual sense for years to come.

In the case of something like a carpet, there is a definite value, but in the case of many of the other things bought on overseas trips, it is the personal memory that is the value to the buyer whether the visit was to a famous city in the world or to the wild parks of Africa and Asia. Travel is still increasing and the industry seems bound to continue to flourish.
