With so much attention on the upcoming Cataclysm release, it could be easy to forget about the Ruby Sanctum, the new raid that dropped this summer. Let's touch on the basics of this new 4-boss raid.

In the Ruby Sanctum, you will face Halion and his three powerful drakes, Saviana Ragefire, Baltharus the Warborn, General Zarithrian. Since this raid is so new, it is still possible that some of the details will change, but here's what we know about the four bosses so far:

Saviana Ragefire has a powerful Flame Breath attack that you must account for if your party is to succeed in taking down this beast. Between this and her Conflagration attack, you can easily lose party members if you don't employ the right tactics. Your healers had better be on their toes in this fight.

Baltharus the Warborn throws dangerous Blade Tempest and Cleave attacks at you. Oh, and I almost forgot Baltharus's mirror image, which spawns throughout the fight and can really rip up your raid if you aren't ready for it. How long would your party last with two bosses rampaging through your ranks simultaneously?

General Zarithrian doesn't do mirror images, but does get help from numerous adds throughout the fight. Your off tanks need to be ready for these if you are to survive this battle. As if that wasn't bad enough, the beast's Intimidating Roar can leave party members paralyzed with fear for 4 seconds at a time. You know how much damage your character can do to a helpless foe in 4 seconds. Imagine what the General can do to your party with that much time.

Then there's the big boss, Halion. Taking this boss down is a three-phase challenge, with Halion bouncing back and forth between the Physical and Twilight realms. The ability to manage your party properly is crucial here, particularly in the final phase, where Halion splits himself in two, and battles your party on both planes simultaneously.

While Ruby Sanctum may not be getting much publicity, it is definitely worth putting some time into this raid. You can always put in the time to discover all the secrets of this raid yourself, but if you don't have unlimited time, there's a better way.
