Rules Are Meant To Be Broken: Finding A Job
Job hunting can be a tedious endeavor full of ups and downs
. Applying for jobs is often a hit or miss situation. On the other hand, job hunting can be very rewarding even before you actually land a job. An inspired attitude could be just the thing you're missing in your quest for a job.
Three standard steps to finding a job are to look, apply and then interview. Until you know one way or the other, you're forced to wait anxiously to hear that you're hired. Does this process really work for you? If you want a head start on other job-seekers, take a look at these options.
Don't react, create. Finding open jobs is easy if you check the newspaper. Anyone can do that. On the other hand, it's not often that job-seekers call a business that isn't advertising a position. This gives you a chance to inquire about positions that may have just opened and to just tell them who you are. If you're familiar with the company's current dealings, it also gives you a chance to let them know how you can help with a particular situation rather than just offering general services.
Don't be boxed in by specific qualifications. It's common for job advertisements to list minimum qualifications to be eligible for a job. If you have experience at a task, for example, then lacking a few sought-after characteristics isn't necessarily a bad thing. You know if you can perform certain tasks, so don't be afraid to put your name in consideration. What many ads don't tell you is that companies train all their employees in some way. Just like the company tells you what it wants, you can tell employers what you have that they may need.
Think outside the box with old methods. Adhering to standard rules is only okay if you're getting the most out of the experience. Classified ads are useful, but it's also a good idea to try online job searches. Creating a unique website is an example of a way to let your name and qualifications be seen.
You can't really be right or wrong in how you look for a job. Following someone's guidelines is only right if it works for you. Creativity and being proactive are just two of the traits that can help you find the right job path.
