One factor that plays a major role in SEO is how you use anchor text. If you're really new, that's ok, anchor text is what is used as the 'text' that makes up your links. It's important, for your backlinking, that you use relevant anchor text to all your pages especially the primary keyword phrase for your site - but only for the relevant page.
