There's a reason why skateboarding is an extreme sport; and that's because it's athletes have a higher risk of injury than most sports

. No matter how good you may be, you will always find yourself having cuts or bruises along the way.

There are many skaters that have been permanently injured as a result of performing some skateboarding tricks and there are also those who have experienced life threatening injuries by engaging in this sport. However, despite the injuries and the danger, there are still many enthusiast and aspirants of such sport. And that's because skateboarding is fun, exciting, exhilarating, and downright amazing especially when you are good at performing tricks and stunts.

Skateboarding is definitely fun and exciting, but is it really that dangerous? Maybe, not. If you have enough knowledge about it then maybe you will have a lesser risk of getting injuries. Here are a couple of safety concerns that you should know about to prevent yourself from injuries.

Wear protective gear at all times. It is vital for every skateboarder to wear the necessary and apparopriate protective gears such as helmets, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guard and cup for boys (to protect the family jewels) to lessen the risk of acquiring injuries when engaged in such a sport. Since this is an extreme sport after all, always be mindful that you should be wearing safety gear at all times.


Protective gears could save your life; a helmet could save you from a concussion and possibly brain damage that could be caused by such a sport. Those safety gear actually do have a purpose, these aren't just for show. So make sure to find the right one that fits you perfectly.

Think of the safety precautions before proceeding to do anything. You need to consider your surroundings, your technique, and the ability that you possess before attempting to do anything. Take for example skating in the middle of the road or in the mall, bad idea. So make sure to always be mindful of your surroundings and see if there's anything hazardous and what not. And always, try to avoid or stay away from anything harmful or that's beyond your skill level. And a friendly reminder, always know where your limitations are.


Don't try to be Tony Hawk or something if you can't walk the walk just yet. Don't perform tricks that you think you are not yet capable of doing. Know your body and limitations so that you won't end up hurting yourself. Also avoid doing stupid things for it might cause you serious injury.

Skate in appropriate places. Avoid skating in dangerous areas like stairs and escalators if you aren't skilled enough to do it. Try to watch videos on skateboarding accidents and you will notice that it is the environment that is the primary cause of such accidents. You can search for these in google or in youtube and you'll find a lot of videos of that sort. Get ready to watch for people who are in great deals of pain and agony.

So when you skateboard, make sure you skate in safe places. Avoid doing those stupid and nearly impossible to perform stunts and as well as skateboarding in hazardous places. If you don't want to be injured and have your very own crash video, then stay away from anything dangerous.
