Salt Lake City Toyota Prius dealer thrilled with Consumer Reports recommendations

When Toyota makes a comeback they do it right. Not only has the company continued to take care of issues associated with massive recalls earlier this year, offered huge buyer incentives and had record sales for two quarters, but now their recalled models are being re-recommended by Consumer Reports.

Eight models which were recalled in January by the Japanese automaker have been given the thumbs-up by the giant of the product ratings world. CR now says the Avalon, Camry, Corolla, Highlander, Matrix, RAV4, Sequoia and Tundra models by Toyota have had the recall problem of possible unintended acceleration addressed adequately. The vehicles on sale now have been judged to be safe and CR says they meet its requirements for a "recommended" rating. CR tests vehicles independently and says these models held up. They also received average or above average rankings in a consumer survey. Consumer Reports claimed the following reasons for adding the Toyota models back to the recommended list:

*More than 1.8 million of the 2.3 million recalled vehicles have been fixed and a huge percentage of buyers contacted after the recall said they were happy with the process Toyota used to fix things.

*New versions of these models were redesigned to prevent a recurrence of the problem.

*The 2011 Toyota models have brake-override systems to help prevent unintended acceleration and many of the recalled models were fitted with the system. So far they have said the accidents likely resulted from driver error. The government study has not been released, but leaked information from that study indicated the same findings.
