The huge availability of high end smartphones has meant that the mid-range smartphone segment has been slightly looked without too much of a favour from the mobile phone manufacturers. This, however, seems to be changing after Samsung announced the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Mini. This is a phone that is going to be positioned as a mid-range smartphone that has plenty of features. It is a segment where Samsung usually have the better of other manufacturers due to their experience in making budget smartphones.

The Samsung Galaxy Mini will be a phone that will be using a 3.15 inch touch screen display. Even though this is a budget smartphone, the capacitive display technology is used in this display. Hence, it will be able to recognise multiple touches on the screen, which is something that is still available for majority of the budget smartphones. The resolution that this screen supports will be 320 x 240 pixels and it can display a maximum of 256K colours. Due to the employment of the TouchWiz 3.0 user interface, the Samsung Galaxy Mini is going to be relatively easy to operate. After facilities that are provided in the display department include the likes of the accelerometer and proximity sensor.

The Swype text input method is used in the Samsung Galaxy Mini. It was initially previewed in the Samsung Galaxy S, but its appearance in the new phone vastly improves the user friendliness of it. Even though there are plenty of sound technologies currently available, the Samsung Galaxy Mini will be using only the DNSe sound enhancement technique in order to keep the costs low. It is, however, an excellent technology to reproduce the sound through the loudspeaker present in the phone. There is also the option to use the headphones of any different variety due to the presence of the 3.5 mm headphone socket. While the internal memory might be just 160 MB, the 2 GB memory card that is provided as a complimentary item along with the phone satisfies the need to have a much larger memory.

Even if this 2 GB is not sufficient, then there's always the option to use up to 32 GB in terms of the memory card size. Given the 3.15 megapixel camera and the powerful processor, you will definitely not feel the pinch of having a 32 GB memory card in the back of the Samsung Galaxy Mini. The camera is going to be helped by the presence of Geotagging and video recording option. The processor in the Samsung Galaxy Mini is a 600 MHz unit, which is just about on par with the segment as a whole. However, something that is not on par with the segment will be the Android 2.2 operating system. It is a far cry from the Android 1.6 or even the Symbian operating system that is used in other mobile phones in the segment. The Samsung Galaxy Mini is available from as little as 150 on Pay As You Go deals.
