Samsung's I9000 Galaxy S New For 2010
Samsung look set to shake up the Smartphone market this summer with the release of the highly anticipated i9000 Galaxy S.
In terms of looks and design, the manufacturers are clearly onto a winner from the start. The 122.4 x 64.2 x 9.9mm body, despite being far from miniature, looks sleek. This is thanks in part to the relatively thin 9.9mm depth. Samsung achieve this by making the capacitive touchscreen with Super AMOLED technology, regarded as the best mobile screen available. Unlike LCD, where two sheets of glass are used in the display, this type of screen uses the single sheet. Not only does this minimise the size, but the system also produces a much more natural black colour as well as provide a much better viewing angle, particularly useful when the screen is being viewed in sunlight. This design, coupled with the massive 4" measurement really makes this screen the benchmark for future mobile phones. The phones TouchWiz user interface also makes the actual using of the screen fun and innovative. For example the smart unlock system allows you to assign a letter of the alphabet to certain phone functions. When the phone is locked you can then simply draw this letter on the screen to not only unlock the phone, but to automatically launch the assigned function to.
In terms of Media usage, the Samsung Galaxy S is certainly well equipped. The phone supports a host of audio file formats, so using the handset as a portable music player is easy, especially with 16GB of internal memory to store tracks on. The inclusion of a 3.5mm headphone jack is a plus point, allowing the user to plug in their own choice of headphones. With regards to the handsets built in camera, this is a 5 million pixel affair that produce good, crisp results. Autofocus makes actually taking the picture easy, and geo tagging and face detection are also useful additions to the facility. However it is the Galaxys capability of shooting video footage in high definition that really makes this phone stand out amongst its peers. The footage is captured at a rate of 30 frames per second and despite the lack of a TV output, this can be streamed to compatible televisions thanks to DNLA support.
With a whole host of phones due for release in the summer of 2010, it takes something special to stand out from the crowd and grab the publics attention. The Galaxy S looks set to be the handset to do just that thanks to the superb screen, excellent UI and impressive feature list.
