Sandals Terminates Lease Contract For Beaches Sandy Bay Resort In Jamaica

Sandals Resorts has announced that it will be terminating its lease contract with the owners of Beaches Sandy Bay in Jamaica this summer.

The hotel group has stated that the resort which has provided family-friendly Jamaica holidays for the last12 years no longer fits the companys long-term strategy and vision.

Tourists can continue to go on holidays to Jamaica at the beachfront resort in Negril until 30th September 2012, after which it will be handed back to the owners, Poincianna Resorts, who will continue to operate the property under their own brand name.

Holidaymakers who have already booked a Jamaica holiday at the resort after this date will be relocated to a different Sandals resort with no extra charges.

The Director of Operations at Sandals Resorts, Wayne Cummings, explained that they are planning to transfer many of the 220 staff members at Beaches Sandy Bay to Negril, Whitehouse, Montego Bay and Ocho Rios properties and staff who cannot be transferred will be compensated.

Sandals will now operate two Beaches-branded resorts in the Caribbean but Cummings added that the company continues to look for opportunities to grow.

Beaches Sandy Bay is located in Negril, one of the islands most popular and vibrant coastal towns. Negrils most famous feature is its pristine seven-mile white beach with turquoise waters that are home to a spectacular offshore reef and perfect for scuba diving and snorkelling adventures.

The beach resort town boasts plenty of traditional restaurants, lively bars and nightclubs, charming shops and local markets, as well as luxury beachfront Jamaica hotels.

Jamaica is situated in the Caribbean Sea and is one of the worlds leading tourist destinations. White sand beaches are fringed with turquoise warm ocean waters, and majestic mountains soar above lush rolling green hills and forests.

During holidays in Jamaica, travellers can enjoy a wide range of tourist attractions, nature parks, and heritage sites such as Dunns River Falls, the Blue Mountains, Dolphin Cove, Blue Lagoon, and the Bob Marley Museum.

Last year, Jamaica was declared the Caribbeans Leading Destination for the sixth year in a row during a World Travel Awards gala ceremony that took place at Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort & Private Island in Montego Bay.

Sandals operates all inclusive Caribbean hotels and resorts under the Sandals, Beaches and Grand Pineapple Beach brands across Jamaica, St Lucia, Antigua, The Bahamas, and Turks and Caicos.
