The genesis of the present craze for organic clothing has its roots in the outbreak

of the Mad Cow Disease in the early years of the 21st century when there were many deaths reported across the country resulting from this disease. There were thousands of people falling sick because of consumption of ordinary beef as well. This frightened the people and soon there were a large number of food items in the market that were grown organically. This only meant that they were grown naturally without using harmful pesticides and other insecticides.

Soon, peoples attention was diverted to the dangers posed by ordinary clothing to the health of human beings. Cotton is the most loved clothing material in the world and all sorts of apparels are made from it. It is used to make lingerie, undergarments, trousers, shirts, T-shirts, trousers, jeans, sweaters, jackets, socks and many other outfits. Cotton remains in contact with our skin for most part of a day. Ordinarily, Cotton is one crop that makes use of the highest quantity of pesticides and other chemicals in its production. This means that all these toxins come in contact with human skin leading to many types of diseases and ailments. Doctors are of the opinion that many ailments such as respiratory problems, asthma, various allergies, ailments of eyes, and nervous order disorders are in some way or the other linked with the use of pesticides during the production of cotton. All this knowledge has contributed to directing peoples attention to the beneficial effects of organic clothing.

Let us see at a glance the types of chemicals used in the manufacture of our clothing. You will be surprised to learn that apart from all the pesticides and fertilizers used in the manufacture of cotton, a lot more are used during the making of apparels. Some of these dangerous chemicals are ammonia, formaldehydes, waxes, petroleum products, retardants, softeners, brighteners, heavy metals, synthetic dyes etc. which can have very harmful effects on human beings. This effect is increased when the skin is wet or there is any cut in the skin through reverse osmosis. But you are saved from all the ill effects of these chemicals when you use organic clothing as it is produced naturally without using any chemicals.

It is babies skin that is most affected by these harsh chemicals as it is extremely soft and delicate. As there is greater awareness among the people about the advantages of naturally produced clothing, more and more people are attracted to this kind of clothing. A large number of manufacturers are making organic clothing which is being lapped by people to buy natural clothes for their kids.

This trend of natural clothes is good from the environmental point of view also. All the toxins that are disposed off from industrial units making ordinary clothing cause enormous damage to the environment and to the aquatic creatures. But with the increasing use of organically produced clothing, this pollution is somewhat reduced and this is what is making people go for organic clothing.
