Rocket Japanese is a popular Japanese learning system. Does it actually work?

WHAT DOES THE PROGRAM LOOK LIKE?

Rocket Japanese comes as a CD set or a downloadable package. It comes with videos, audio, and software games. In addition, you are given access to a "Learning Lounge" where you can test your progress, and communicate with other users and instructors.

The idea is to teach Japanese by a system known as Visual Association. "Visual association" is the same way you first learned to speak. You SAW an object and HEARD the word simultaneously. HOW WELL DOES IT WORK?

IF you are ready to work with the program in a consistent way, Rocket Japanese can be extremely powerful. Ideally, you should attempt to view the lessons for some time each day (30min to 1hr at least). The lessons are engineered to build on one another. Therefore, being consistent is important.

Learning a language is alot like learning to ride a bike. For the first little while you may think that you are not getting anywhere. If you keep going, however, you will come to a point when things suddenly come together. You will find yourself creating sentences without effort and picking up most of the words in the audio recordings.

Then you can proceed to learning more advanced vocabulary and grammar.

IS IT THE BEST WAY TO GO FOR EVERY STUDENT?

Some people find it difficult to focus unless there is some outside pressure like an upcoming "exam" or a teacher checking their "homework".

Rocket Japanese is a do it yourself program. It is very powerful but you have to provide the consistency yourself.

If you think you need the pressure of a classroom situation in order to take action, look into a class at a local college. Remember, however, that a class will cost more and will take longer.
