Schedule For The Cpa Exam
Obtaining the Notice to Schedule is one step in the CPA Exam process but a very important step
. Here are the steps to sitting for the exam.
You select a jurisdiction in which you believe your are qualified to sit for the CPA Exam. You obtain the application, fill it out, and send it in with the appropriate fees. Once you are approved by that jurisdiction to sit for the exam, that state Board of Accountancy will send you a Notice to Schedule, also known as the NTS.
The NTS is very specific because it tells you which parts of the exam you are qualified to sit for at this moment. (You have to obtain another NTS each time you sit for an exam part.)
With your NTS in hand, you contact Prometric to schedule the day, time and location where you wish to sit for the exam. You should apply at least 45 days ahead of your intended test day to make certain that you are approved for the day, time and location which is best for you. These test centers fill up quickly!
Make certain that your name on your NTS matches exactly your identification which you will present on exam day. If it does not, now is the time to get that fixed. Caution: the NTS has an expiration date! If you don't sit for the exam before the expiration date, you may have to apply all over again. If you have to reapply, there may be additional exam fees. Schedule well ahead of your expiration date, just in case you have to pick another day and time to get in.
After the Board of Accountancy or the agency representing it approves your application to sit for the exam, the Board or agency will send you a Notice to Schedule (NTS) for the CPA Exam. The NTS tells you that you are eligible to take the exam parts for which you applied. You need the NTS for two reasons:
*To contact Prometric to schedule the exam. *To present on test day at the test center as part of the identification verification process. Your name on the NTS must match the identification presented exactly or you risk not being admitted on test day.
If your name on the NTS and your identification do not match, contact the Board of Accountancy or its agency to correct this before test day.
The NTS has an expiration date. After that point, you must reapply and potentially pay additional fees. Be aware of this expiration and schedule the test ahead of that date. Once you have the correct NTS, you should contact Prometric to select the best test day, time, and testing center location.
When the exam is offered: The CPA Exam is given during testing windows which are the first two months of every quarter. These months are: January, February, April, May, July, August, October and November.
Where the exam is offered: Since the same CPA Exam is given at over 300 Prometric testing centers, you do not have to physically sit in a testing center in the jurisdiction in which you desire to become a CPA. For instance, a university candidate in Illinois who has been hired by a Texas CPA firm can apply to Texas and when approved, sit for the test in Illinois as a Texas candidate. When the candidate passes all four sections of the exam, the candidate is then a Texas CPA after licensure.
Who administers the CPA Exam? Prometric administers the giving of the CPA Exam in all 54 jurisdictions. Contact the Prometric Candidate Services Call Center at 800-696-2722 or www. Prometric.com to schedule your test date. For Guam, refer to the NASBA testing center. If you applying to the Guam test center, read the directions in the Candidate Bulletin.
