Remember that your Schengen visa will not be valid for ever; it will only stay valid for a few months, so moving your dates back and forth may not be an option. Of course, if you are a tourist and plan to spend your vacation equally in each of the countries you are visiting; then applying for the visa from any of these countries will work. Just make sure that your itinerary reflects this. Remember that the consulate officials have nothing else to go by with respect to your travel plans, so send them the most accurate and most up-to-date information you have.

If these policies and regulations are somewhat overwhelming, hiring an immigration specialist who specializes in EU visas may not be a bad idea. You don't take trips Europe everyday, so you want to make sure you get this right. Ironically, doing it on your own can cost you a lot more money than hiring a professional who has been down this road before. While a straightforward case may not necessarily require a professional's help, more complicated cases, especially when children are involved are much better off with someone who does this for a living. When children are involved, the immigration officials take extra care to make sure that the child is not endangered in any way and that there are no unresolved custody disputes in the child's life. Sometimes, you may need written permission from one parent when the child is traveling with the other in order to obtain a visa for both.
