Schwinn Airdyne Evolution Comp Exercise Bike -- How Is It Different

?

A Schwinn Airdyne Evolution Comp exercise bike is the almost natural evolution of the older model Schwinn designed and built to address weaknesses in the original design. Of course, whatever weaknesses exist in a nearly thirty year old design will be found out and revealed by the many users, of which there are many for the AirDynes, new and old. Certainly most any device can stand improvement and the older model of the Airdyne has some room for better ideas. Now the older model was not replaced by the Evo. Instead the new version was introduced as another model instead. That's probably a good move on their part since the original machine has such a positive reputation. Here's how the Evo is different and what it offers.

The difference is blowing in the wind. It's the breeze... and the noise... See, the Airdyne models use fan resistance created when you pedal to generate the load you work against. Pedal faster and the fan goes faster and the load increases. That's the main working part of the machine and why it works as it does. However, turning fans make for wind and noise. In the case of the original Airdyne version, the fan is big and creates a real gale type wind with all the resulting commotion and noise as well. It fairly well drowns out any other sounds in the immediate vicinity. That could be good or it could be bad.

What the Evo has is a different fan and a different drive system. That fan is smaller and the drive is a belt not a chain. That means less wind noise and the wind is not so close to the rider either. Plus the reduced mechanical racker from driving with a belt rather than a chain makes for less mechanical distraction as well. Plus, the two changes in combination makes for a physically smaller machine, easier to move and store.

What you get is a quieter bike with less wind noise and less drive noise too. That's a good deal. Plus you get less breeze on you too. Now a breeze is not all bad, but the old Airdyne can generate gale force winds. That's not good.

So, with the newer Schwinn Airdyne Evolution Comp exercise bike, you get the same type rugged design as the older model. But, you get that same performance with less noise and less wind blowing at you too. This is worth a look if you're in the market for a rugged exercise bike that will probably work for as long as you want to pedal an exercise bike. The Airdyne in either version is noted for rugged design and construction and long life under hard use. The bikes have many times been found in gyms and clubs since they will stand up to the hardest of use and cause little if any maintenance trouble for a long life. Not the cheapest sort of stationary bike, they offer good value because of the tough construction and the ability to let riders get a comfortable workout that results in balanced workouts and improved fitness.
