What is screen printing?
Screen printing is a unique process whereby ink is forced through a fine mesh using a squeegee onto a substrate in order to produce an image. It can be used to print on a wide range of materials including self adhesive vinyl, flexible and rigid plastics, polypropylenes and fabrics. There are many more substrate options.
How many colours does screen printing support?
Quite simply as many as you want! Screen printing can either match hard copy colours or print colours as detailed in the pantone matching system.
Will it be cheaper if I have fewer colours?
Yes. Each colour requires a seperate film to be generated for it and a seperate print run. The more films and print runs there are the more expensive the finished product.
Will it be cheaper per unit if I order more?
Yes. The larger the quantity the more images will be printed onto a sheet simultaneously. Also the film costs and the machine set up costs are fixed and will become a smaller proportion of the overall cost.
Can I have a proof?
Screen printers can supply an artwork pdf proof. Physically printed proofs are somewhat more problematic as they require film positives to be made. Any alterations to individual colours will require a new film to be generated for each colour altered.
Can screen print do full colour?
Screen printing can reproduce full colour graphics. Generally most screen printed images are printed at a screen ruling of 60 dots per inch which is perfectly adequate for most products.
What is the delivery time?
This is usually dependent on the quantities and number of colours. Usually most screen printers will aim to complete most jobs within a time period of seven to ten days although for large runs this will obviously take longer.
Can you cut out shapes?
In most cases screen printers will have in house die cutting facilities. Those who don't will often subcontract out this part of the process.
Can you screen print stickers to fix on the inside of the window?
This is easily achieved. A screen printer will start out with a clear piece of material either self adhesive vinyl or self cling, screen print the desired image in reverse and back it up with a solid colour (usually white). When viewed from the outside the image now reads the correct way.
Do you have standard sizes?
Screen printed products are bespoke in nature and therefore can be printed to any size the customer desires although guidance can be given as to more economical sizes.
