SEO (search engine optimization) is often considered as a major landmark in internet marketing
. Also it constitutes a major channel of internet marketing and a way to drive relevant and targeted traffic towards websites so we can see everybody is talking about it.
Search engine optimization has roots back in mid 90s when the search engines begin to crop up on the web. Initially the web was only a collection of directories where you need to work hard to find the stuff you are looking for. The only problem which do exists that webmasters were able to spam them quite easily as the algorithms was easy to hack at a some extend.
Hence came a new engine which changes the entire scenario of internet. Google was launched in 1997 with an algorithm which was quite strong and bring in the most relevant results against any search query. It was the only search engine which created a giant market in terms of revenue and traffic both. Today we can see the potential of both SEO and Adwords in terms of google which is growing at an exponential level.
Now the search engines have gone beyond by introducing the semantic web (Web 3.0) as the results now fetched are from every network including Web 2.0. Hence its easy to get the latest update on search engines itself like Tweets, Facebook page updates, Videos, News etc. There is no doubt in saying that search engines rules the web, although social media has created a new market within itself but search is going to stay for a very long time.
