Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) Light Boxes vs SAD Light Bulbs
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) Light Boxes vs SAD Light Bulbs
For many years, actually for as long as I can remember, I've suffered from SAD. I actually dreaded the clock 'going back' because it signalled the start of 6 months of short days and the dreaded long nights.
Those lucky people who don't suffer with this disorder don't understand the debilitating symptoms that it produces.
For the last two years I have used a seasonal affective disorder light box, which was rather an expensive purchase. The relief it gives is tremendous and I thought it was well worth the money I paid.
The main drawback, apart from price, is the fact that you have to deliberately sit in front of it for approximately 20 to 25 minutes every day to gain the maximum benefit. That can be really inconvenient, just trying to make the time and hope that you don't get interrupted.
Just recently I accidentally came across SAD light bulbs while I was shopping for something else.
These are direct replacements for normal light bulbs and emit the full daylight spectrum of light and are supposed to help SAD sufferers.
So, I bought a couple and fitted one to my lounge ceiling light fitting and the other in the dining room.
I must admit, I was sceptical that these would work, considering the large price difference between them and the light box.
For fellow sufferers, I have some great news, they work!
The light quality is really amazing, it really is just like daylight. No more sitting in front of the light box, I just go about my home as normal and the beauty of these bulbs is the exposure is much more evened out and constant.
These really leave other light therapy products in the shade, so to speak.
There is also one more benefit from the bulbs that I bought, they also ionise the air, which means that they act as an air purifier too. The house is much fresher as a result and my SAD is no longer a problem, so win-win all round! Oh yes, and they are energy savers too!
I'm so impressed with these little beauties that I've set up a webpage with a picture of them and a list of the advantages, so you can benefit from them too.
Take a look, I'm convinced you'll love them too!
