Although Matt Hasselbeck finished 14 of 25 passing for 102 yards for the Seahawks, it was enough to secure his eighth straight victory over St. Louis. The Seahawks' defense kept the Rams down by intercepting Kyle Boller twice and sacking him four times. Cornerback Josh Wilson, who had a 65-yard interception return for a touchdown towards the end of the half, said, "No matter what their record is, you've got to celebrate, be happy and keep it going."
St Louis running back Steven Jackson was the highlight for the Rams. Despite missing three days of practice due to back spasms, Jackson rushed for 89 yards on 23 carries and scored a TD. He fell short of a fifth straight 100-yard game. Seattle linebacker Aaron Curry told the press it was fun going against the 235-pound Jackson for the second time this season.
The Seahawks defeated the Rams 28-0 in Week 1. Curry continued to say that the first time he played against Jackson, he verbally assaulted him. The linebacker added that Jackson "is a good dude. I think it's like who's going to lose their cool first, and it isn't going to be me."
Forsett averaged 5.9 yards on 22 carries, scored for the third consecutive week, and surpassed his previous best of 123 yards set in week 10 at Arizona. He has 385 yards and an astonishing 6.8-yard average this season. Forsett filled in for the injured Julius Jones, who's been out for two straight weeks because of a lung contusion.
Seahawks coach Jim L. Mora reported that Jones didn't feel right even before the pre-game warm-ups. Hasselbeck acknowledged that the Seahawks made an effort to get the run game going. The quarterback said, "The fact we had some breakout runs, some explosive gains in the run game, it's really a good thing."
The Rams' run defense struggled for the third straight week. Their opponents have totaled 556 yards and a 6.2-yard average. The Seahawks ran the ball only six times during the second quarter while St. Louis got a 1-yard TD pass from Boller to Donnie Avery. Rams' Kicker Josh Brown made a season-best 55-yard field goal right before the break.
Wilson was able to intercept a tipped ball on fourth down before he sprinted to the end zone for the score, which gave Seattle a 14-7 lead with 1:38 left before halftime. The cornerback stated that "as soon as I caught it I was thinking 'I'm getting in the end zone no matter what it takes.'" Wilson noted that his pick was a "big play in the game." He has two of Seattle's defensive scores this season. Wilson returned a 61-yard interception for the score against the Detroit Lions on Nov. 8.
