Sebaceous Cyst Symptoms: What Are The Symptoms Of A Sebaceous Cyst?
To many persons, sebaceous cyst may be an uncommon term although they are already experiencing it
. Though, they may know nothing about this skin condition. Sebaceous cyst is the medical term used to refer to small bumps or lumps that can form under the skin. Specifically, it is a closed sac containing a cheesy or pasty protein that usually emits foul odor. These sacs commonly form in the neck, face and trunk, but it can also occur in an area of the genitalia. When the latter occurs in woman, they may fear these are due to genital herpes. What they should understand is the fact that genital herpes are not just lumps, or bump in the skin but is a sore which is blister like. The sebaceous cyst grows very slowly and does not cause any pain.
The surface of the human skin known as the epidermis is very thin and made of cells that serve as its protective layer. These cells continuously shed as they protect the body. Sebaceous cyst happens when the cells in the surface penetrate the skin deeply and start to multiply rather than exfoliate naturally. This is likely to happen in the parts of the body that have large oil glands and smaller hair follicles. The cells will multiply and form a wall that will secrete the protein into its interior. Nearly any person can develop this problem and thus the importance of knowing what the common symptoms are.
The most common symptom that occurs to those who have this condition is the inflammation in the affected area. Even if the cyst is not infected, it can become swollen and very tender. If it is infected, it can give a very red color and is also painful. When it is inflamed, it might be difficult for the doctor to surgically remove it. Thus, he will usually postpone the surgery and prescribe an anti-inflammatory so that the inflammation will subside. When the lump has been ruptured as when it is damaged by puncture, it leaks the keratin protein on the skin. A common symptom in this case is an abscess which is like a boil. If the problem developed in the genital area, then the person is likely to notice symptoms such as problem during urination and pain while making love. They may also notice symptom such as a little horn growing on their skin where the condition has developed.
While everyone is likely to have this problem, there are those people who are more susceptible to experience the symptoms of sebaceous cyst. This skin problem is more likely to be experienced by those who are already past their age of puberty (age 10 to 15 in girls and 12 to 18 in boys). Men also have the higher possibility of incurring this condition especially those who have a history of acne problems. Significant exposure to the sun and those who suffered skin injuries are also at higher risk of developing the symptoms of sebaceous cyst.
