One thing that you dont want to think about, but need to think about when staying at a hotel is the cleanliness of the room

. Cleanliness is one of the most important factors in selecting a hotel room. It should go without saying, but these things still need to be taken into consideration. With most well known chains as well as with luxury bed and breakfasts or resorts, you're almost guaranteed a clean room because they build their reputations on such things.

But when you're staying at a franchise or independently owned hotel you take your chances. But honestly, you take your chances anywhere because you're relying on the staff and management to do what they are saying that they are doing. You can see certain things and judge them to be clean or dirty, but there are many things that you cannot tell are clean or dirty with the naked eye; such things as the comforter on the bed, which you would hope would be washed after each guest, but usually is not.

Also you expect the carpet to be clean and things that you might not even think about such as the clock radio and remote control for the television and the telephone. These things are touched by every person that stays in the room, but arent always cleaned before the next guest arrives. But if you are going to pay money to stay in the room, then you shouldnt feel bad for asking the questions.

It's your right and really your obligation to make sure these things are to your liking before you spend your hard earned money on them. These are all things to take into consideration when booking a room, and with the technology today, with the internet, you can at least receive a glimpse of what your room will look like before you book it.

A red flag should go up if they will not let you see the room before you pay for it. This is a sign of a bad establishment and you should move on to the next available location. Otherwise you are going to in all probability be very disappointed and most likely disgusted by what you find. And instead of ending up sleeping on top of the bed sheets, fully clothed because you do not want to touch anything, you might as well go to the next rest stop and sleep in your car.
