In the Parang Mountains, at an altitude of 1600 meters, you can find the Ranca resort. An 18 kilometer twisting route that starts from the city Novaci is the way you can reach Ranca and it is a great drive with landscapes that will leave you breathless. From Novaci to Ranca you will be driving on the highest route in Romania, Transalpina, with the high point in Pasul Urdele at 2145 meters.

A tourist attraction in the winter but also in the summer, Ranca is currently still in development. Skiers and snowboarders can enjoy slopes on the Cornesu Mountain and the Parang Mountain, 1.5 kilometers on the first and 800 meters of intermediate to expert slope on the second option. The slopes on Cornesu are served by tele skis and the one on the Papusa Mountain is served by a chair lift. After the sunset on slope on the Cornesu Mountain is lit. The Papusa Mountain might host ten more slopes on the north side in the future. In the summer Ranca is a departure point for various trekking trails in the Parang Mountains and further.

The chair lift on the Papusa Mountain will take you close to the top allowing easy access to free-ride areas. Once you get off the chair lift you can choose whether you want a groomed slope or to climb higher up the mountain for some powder. Because the mountain is not avalanche controlled you will have to take all the safety precautions. Around the Papusa Peak you can find an excellent free-ride area with perfect powder maintained by the frecvent snowfall.

In the summer you can easily touch tops like Papusa, Urdele, Mohorul, Iezer. You can reach the Papusa Peak after a 2 hour hike from Ranca. With a 10 minute drive from Ranca you can reach the Urdele peak, at 2145 meters. The trail to the Iezer peak can be found after a five minutes drive from the Urdele Peak, you will have to hike for one hour on the trail leading to Parangul Mare and the Galcescu Lake but the views are exceptional. After reaching the Iezer Peak you can continue to the Mohorul Peak, which is a great place to look at the Carpathian Mountains, it's at 2337 meters. In the Parang Mountains you have a selection of glacial lakes and reservoir lakes that you can see. There are many tourist attractions around Ranca, like monasteries, natural caves and gorges. Mountain peaks within hiking distance and great scenery from one side to the other, Ranca is a mountain resort with an a bright future ahead.

A city developed on top of the world, this is the image of Ranca, with the lowest point at 1600 meters and the highest and 1800 meters. While different mountain resorts present you a view at the mountain peaks, Ranca gives you the view from a mountain peak. From Ranca you can look at the rest of the Gorj county or you can take a look at the surrounding mountain peaks: Papusa, Parangul Mare, Mohorul, Urdele. The Papusa Summit (2135 meters) is like a defender to the Ranca resort.
