Seize The Idea To Analyze Your Home Security Exposure
Our home is our castle; at least we have always believed that it is
. And like the castles of old, one of the primary functions is to provide a place wherein we can truly, totally relax in the knowledge that at least here we are safe. No one wants to have to be on guard all the time; accepting that as a norm would cause us to endure continuous stress, even if it is at a low level, that is injurious to health and peace of mind. Home security is simply to inconvenient to have to work at, we elect our officials to protect our communities.
Complacency is a trait our adversaries count on to make their efforts to deprive us of what is ours or commit violent crimes in the attempt to make whatever statement about themselves they desire. Of course no one would suggest that we attempt to build our homes into a fortress that can withstand outright attack; it would be smarter to simply move away from such an environment. The resources needed to make our house impenetrable are simply excessive and largely unnecessary.
A smart approach to ensuring the house our family lives in provides adequate protection is to identify what realistic threats we face, and then resolving anything that makes these threats more likely to happen. If we make this assessment before we choose our home, we are ahead of the curve, but neighborhoods and their environs change over time, so it bears repetitive scrutiny. The first thing to do is figure out what we need to prevent.
We can also talk with others in the neighborhood about our concerns and to see if they have any we might not have thought about. It is a very human response, however, to come up with all manner of incredible plans and ideas for how evil people can take advantage of us. Perhaps because we have so many entertainment venues to feed the natural fears we have that these types of crimes seem possible in the first place.
There is little logic behind the notion that any group of people will find your home or neighborhood valuable enough to mount a sophisticated infiltration, the effort would cost more than the reward. Usually, we merely need to concern ourselves about burglary and drunken intrusions. We want to do all we can to keep our valuables private, and to eliminate ease of access to our houses.
Doing a vulnerability assessment on your home is relatively simple, and begins with keeping the above three likely criminals in mind. First, how do you keep yourself from being a target of opportunity? This answer is as simple as a checklist, diligently adhered to, which secures all access to your home; windows doors and garage. Combine this with never keeping a spare key physically near the home and you have the first step conquered.
If someone really believes you have more than average values and is determined to get at them, you will have to step up the response to keep them out. Very visible signs that announce you have a monitoring service with alarms or with animals that can be a threat to intruders may give a potential thief cause to pause. Having a noticeable (but not easily defeated) video monitoring system is also a great deterrent.
An important additional consideration is to avoid events which allow outsiders to casually walk through our neighborhoods. Personal sales events allow would be thieves to establish ingress and departure routes in broad daylight with no concern for detection. Knowing what the threat is and when it is most likely to occur is a powerful home security component that you can determine without external assistance.
