Selecting The Right 4 * 4 Car

Choosing a 4 * 4

Choosing a 4 * 4

Over the last few years, 4x4 cars have become ever more popular as they have moved out of their traditional off-road terrain and into more general use, particularly as MPV's. They are still selling strongly today and there is an ever increasing range of 4x4s on the market. This can make the process of choosing the best 4x4 car a bit of a minefield for the inexperienced driver, so here are some of the things to think about when choosing a 4x4.

The type of 4x4

As you might expect, one of the biggest decisions you'll have to make is the type of 4x4 to get. As well as choosing between a whole range of different makes and models, there are also two main types you need to consider. For example, do you want a normal 4x4 that will be great for off-road driving, or a 4x4 version that is a 'regular' car, one that is more practical for driving around town?

Your choice is likely to be dependent on where you reside and the amount of off road driving you do, and it could have a big impact on the success of your purchase, so think about it with care.

The warranty and reliability

It is also worth seriously looking into the reliability of the 4x4 car you are interested in buying. This is because, largely thanks to the type of driving they are typically used for, they have a higher than average breakdown rate when compared with other types of car. This means you should make your choice carefully to make sure you get a truly reliable model.

It is also a good idea to look for a car that comes with a good warranty so you know that if something does go wrong, you should be able to sort it out under warranty without too much hassle.

The practicality

You also need to consider the practicality of your car - different cars suit different environments. Nowhere is this truer than with the 4x4. You should also pay attention to things such as interior space because even though 4x4s typically look roomy from the outside, this isn't always the case once you get inside.

Also, the boot space on some 4x4s can be a little lacking, so you'll need to make some decisions over your storage needs and the kind of 4x4 you want to buy.

The efficiency

Most 4x4s have a bit of a reputation for using up lots of petrol, and in many cases this is still true, so you're likely to need to budget for this when making your purchase. Alternatively, there is a growing range of more fuel-efficient cars, so this could be something to look at when deciding which one to get.

The dealer

Finally, when you're buying a 4x4, it's important that you go to a good dealer with a decent reputation, perhaps one of those car supermarkets? After all, you're likely to be relying a lot on their advice and you might well need their help if anything goes wrong with your new car, so make sure you select a dealer who is trustworthy and who offers a comprehensive range of services.
