Selecting The Right "racetam" Nootropic
The list of "racetam" nootropics is rather long
. The first one was piracetam. Piracetam was first synthesized in the 1960's. It is responsible for the term "nootropic". Because piracetam was such an effective supplement, and became to successful, other scientists began to synthesize their own. Even though nootropics in the "racetam" family work in similar ways, they are far from the same. Some nootropics in this family include piracetam, aniracetam, oxiracetam, and pramiracetam.
If you are new to nootropics you are probably wondering where to start. It can be hard to choose between so many. The starting point for most people is piracetam. I would also recommend this as a starting point to anyone for multiple reasons.Piracetam is the most studied of the "racetam" nootropics. It was synthesized first and has been studied for a long time. Even though we don't know exactly how it works, we know more about it than any of the other "racetam" nootropics. We know for a fact that long-term piracetam use is safe. It has been around for a long time and people have been taking it for a long time. Nothing bad has happened to them. If you want to be as safe as possible, start with piracetam.Piracetam is the least potent. It takes many people weeks of use before they start to feel the effects. This is because it has to build up in your system. If piracetam works well for you, then you don't really need to take a more potent one. If it doesn't work, you can just try something new.
The only reason not to take piracetam first if it you want real results as fast as possible. Aniracetam, Oxiracetam, and Pramiracetam are much more likely to produce noticeable effects the first time you use them. So let's pretend either piracetam didn't work well for you, or you decided to skip it right off the start. How can you pick between the other three? I would suggest you start with aniracetam. My sole reason for this is because it is regarded as the next most powerful. The standard dose is between 1,000-2,000 mg three times a day. This is a much larger dose when compared to oxiracetam and pramiracetam. The bottom line is, after piracetam go for aniracetam.
After aniracetam, oxiracetam is the next strongest, then pramiracetam. I haven't tried pramiracetam yet but anecdotal evidence suggests it gives quite the kick. Studies have shown pramiracetam to be effective as doses as low as 75mg taken three times a day. I would not recommend that you start with pramiracetam, but if you want to cut right to the most powerful nootropic, that would be your starting point. If you aren't getting what you want out of pramiracetam then it can't hurt to try a different one.
Everyone's brain works differently. Aniracetam might work best for one person while oxiracetam might work better for someone else.I have also heard of some people combining multiple "racetam" nootropics in order to create a synergistic effect. I will say two things about that. If you combine nootropics such as piracetam and aniracetam please do these two things.Take a choline supplement. I think everyone should take a choline supplement even if they are only taking one "racetam" nootropic. If you are taking two it is nescessary. I have little doubt you will experience side effects if you don't.DON'T take the standard doses right off the start. These nootropics work in a very similar fashion. You don't want to overwhelm yourself the first time. Scale the doses down a little bit until you know how you will be effected.
