A Caregiver Story
Melissa Baban , 37, of Torrance, works as a caregiver for BrightStar Healthcare, which sends her to take care of elderly patients, especially those suffering from Alzheimer's disease or dementia. Her job entails providing for their daily needs, feeding them, bathing, changing them if they're incontinent. Clothing them, stimulating them so they can have a good quality of life. The best part of her job is going to her patients' homes and taking care of them and talking to them if they're able to talk, and getting them to smile. One of the happiest moments is to get them to smile and laugh, and that makes her smile inside.
When asked as to what her job has taught her about humanity, she says that we all need each other one way or another and that's why we're here, to help each other out, whether we're a janitor or nurse or doctor.
