The soon to be released Xbox Kinect has become very popular within the past couple weeks
. While most gamers are raving over the system, some skeptics don't think it will live up to its hype. Here I will talk about why several people are concerned about how entertaining the system is going to be.
Kinect games might not be perfectly lag free right when they are released to the public. What people don't want are Kinect games that take forever to respond to your movements. Every game for the peripheral is going to require you to move your body and have interactions. Movements are going to need to be picked up almost right when they are made for Kinect games to be fun.
Everyone knows there will be a bit of slowness at the time of release. After some patches are applied, the speed should get better though.
The condition of the voice recognition system implemented into Kinect is a concern for several people. In some of the Kinect game videos, it was obvious that the system didn't quite understand what the player was actually speaking about. You also have to think about if Kinect games will be able to pick up strong accents, or varying dialects correctly. Clearly accents can be very different. Therefore the recognition software will probably have to be quite high-tech. I actually believe that it will depend on the game programmers. They might have the biggest say in how good the voice system is from game to game. When the Kinect is released to the public, then we will find out the answers to these inquiries about the voice feature.
It is said that there won't be many titles created for the system that are for the more mature gamers. No real fighting or war games have been announced at this time, while many kids games have. The Kinect might not have much appeal to the more mature audiences in this case. Since the Xbox market is mostly composed of young adult gamers, Microsoft may have some trouble getting the public to purchase this system. Hopefully some companies will announce games for the hardcore crowd sometime soon. If this doesn't occur, then Kinect most likely won't be very successful.
