If you are staying on the Costa del Sol and you have time, then a visit to Seville (or Sevilla as it is known in Spain) is a must.
Depending where you are on the Costa del Sol travelling time by road should be no more than two hours thirty minutes, especially if you use the new motorway that can be accessed from just past Algeciras.
Seville is steeped in history and culture with three main religious influences, Muslim, Jewish and of course Catholic. As you arrive you will quickly notice the magnificent architecture and the closer you get to the city centre the more you will notice the huge steeple of the cathedral towering above the other buildings.
Seville Cathedral is a magnificent bit of architecture and has the largest steeple in Europe (if you feel fit you can climb the steps to the top). Looking up you will notice the intricate work around the bells which still ring on the hour. The cathedral is a working cathedral so on some occasions you must be quiet as there are services going on.
The cathedral itself is located in the middle of a beautiful square flanked with orange trees and horse and carts. This area is also famous for the many tapas bars that line the streets. Many people have a dish or two and a glass of sherry or wine and move on to the next tapas bar to do the same, a type of pub crawl only with tapas bars.
Being a city there are many shops and other restaurants to choose from as well as a huge park and other attractions.
One to note is the Plaza de Espana a magnificent circular building that was built for the 1920 expo and still remains and important tourist attraction in Seville. A little bit of trivia about the Plaza de Espana in Seville is that it was used in some scenes of the Star Wars saga Attack of the Clones.
