Sew Custom Shower Curtain And Coordinating Towels
Sometimes when you know exactly what you want when you are decorating a room it can be very frustrating, especially if you cannot find what you are looking for, whether you are shopping for contemporary metal wall decor, handmade metal wall art, copper wall sculpture or even something ordinary, like bathroom accessories. When shopping for a shower curtain, it can be hard to find the perfect one; and then when you do find it, the cost is prohibitive.
Making a Shower Curtain from a Sheet.
The best size for a shower curtain is a full-sized, flat-bed sheet. This allows enough extra fabric for the curtain to drape as it hangs. Due to the fact that the sheet is pre-hemmed, and may also already have a decorator top, there is little sewing to do at all for this project.
There are several ways that you can go about connecting your sheet to the shower rod. You can simply use the top pocket as a shower rod pocket and run the rod through there. You will need to snip the side seams to fit the rod through the pocket. If you choose to go in this direction, the shower curtain liner will require an additional rod.
You might also consider putting the decorative hem at the bottom of the shower curtain and putting grommets in the top to hang the curtain from the rod. If you choose to fold the top of the sheet over three inches toward the back and iron it flat three times, you will get fabric that is triple thick to mount the grommets. A hardware store or a craft store will have grommets. To install them simply cut a slit in the fabric, insert the bottom of the grommet and hammer the top piece on. This makes for a professional looking shower curtain. If you prefer, you could also put the grommets through the decorative edge of the sheet and simply hem the bottom. There really is no right or wrong way to do this project.
You are now ready to position the shower curtain hooks through the grommet holes, install a shower curtain liner, and hang your fresh creation on your shower rod. You will want to make your grommet holes about six inches apart from each other so that you have enough hooks to properly support the curtain and the liner.
Fun and Easy Matching Towels.
To make your matching towels, choose two towels in a coordinating color and use the pillowcases to cut a strip of matching fabric. Cut the strip four times wider than you want the finished strip to be. Now fold in of the fabric along each edge, and then fold the strip in half and iron. Next, simply sew the strip of fabric along the edge of the towels and you now have a coordinating shower curtain and towel set.
