Sharm El Sheikh Excursions

. Located on the Red Sea in the far east of Egypt, Sharm El Sheikh is a fair distance from any of the famous pyramids of Egypt - however there are regular excursions from Sharm El Sheikh to see the pyramids.

The three main pyramids in Egypt are called Cheops, Kephren and Mykerinos, and you can visit them all from Sharm El Sheikh via an excursion.

Cheops Little is known about the Cheops pyramid, due to the fact that it was robbed before it was discovered by archaeologists. What is known however is that it was the resting place of King Cheops, who was believed to have been extremely wealthy due to the size and grandeur of the pyramid itself.

Kephren (Khefren) Kephren's pyramid is slightly smaller than that of Cheops, because he was the son of Cheops and thus had to have a smaller pyramid. However, it does appear from many different angles than Kephren's pyramid is actually taller - this is an optical illusion because of the fact that Kephren's pyramid was constructed on higher land.

Mykerinos The pyramid of Mykerinos is smaller again than that of Kephren, for several reasons. Firstly Mykerinos was the son of Kephren, and also because of the fact that the pyramid of Mykerinos was built at the very edge of rock formation where the other pyramids were built, leaving little room for a larger construction.

Because of its location, many holidaymakers choose to take their holidays to Sharm El Sheikh as part of a 'two-part' holiday in Egypt, with the first part usually being in Cairo where you can tour the ancient wonders of Egypt.
