Should I Tip My Courier Driver?
Not all countries do business the same way but
, in the United States, it has become the common way of doing business to tip most people who work in any kind of a service field after they have performed their service for you. This has, in fact, become so common that most of these fields have lowered their average salaries dramatically over what they may have once been because they expect their employees to make the majority of their income from the gratuities they earn from their customers. This includes fields like the food services industry and the transportation industry.
While the transportation industry obviously includes cab drivers as the most obvious example, it also includes courier drivers like those that would work for a Phoenix delivery service. These individuals do depend on tips for at least a portion of their income. When you tip someone, you are also saying that you think they're doing a good job and are worth the extra expense. This is an excellent way to ensure that you keep receiving the highest quality service, and can even motivate people to go the extra mile and even improve on the service you are already getting.
When you're making deliveries with a scheduled pickup, in a lot of cases you're going to have the same driver making your pickups consistently. This is a perfect example of a situation where building some loyalty between the driver and your company can be a very valuable thing, because they are going to be continually returning to provide your company with service again and again. You should take advantage of that by tipping them regularly, especially if they are doing a good job, as it will help you build a great long term relationship with them.
Having a great courier can be a business asset, and should certainly be viewed as such. You shouldn't ever look at tipping as a waste of money, but instead look at is a required business expense and an investment in your own business. By building that relationship with the courier when times are good, you can help make sure that they want to keep you satisfied, such as accommodating you when you have special requests, and going the extra mile to notify you if anything is going wrong with shipping on any given day so that you can take the appropriate actions on your end to help make sure you keep your clients happy.
