A hot topic on Twitter recently was a photo of Justin Bieber with his swimming trunks slipping down in the back. Justin Biebers butt! read some of the tweets.

Should such pictures be passed around, used as icons, and be posted on blogs? Should such a picture even be taken?

My answer to both questions is No.

First of all, Justin Bieber is a minor. At some point photos of a minors private areas become child pornography. At what point that happens is a question I dont know the answer to (Im not a lawyer).

But imagine if a guy with a camera hung out at the local swimming pool and took photos of kids when their trunks slid down in the back? Hed be regarded as a pervert and if someone figured out what he was doing, theyd call the police.

Why is it different if its paparazzi taking the photos and the subject is a teen superstar?

I guess it comes down to common decency and respect for privacy. How would you like it if photographers shot pictures of you swimming in the ocean and caught you exposed?

To her credit, one Belieber on Twitter had the butt photo as her icon for a few minutes and then thought better of it and removed it (Im sorry I dont remember who that was).

Im suggesting that blog owners, Bieber fans, and journalists refrain from posting that and any similar photos.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

P.S. This restraint would also apply to pictures of Justin with a circle drawn around his crotch suggesting he was experiencing arousal, which was one of the other Australian beach photos circulating the Net recently.

P.P.S. Yes, I realize that this article will stimulate some to go searching for the photos. Im not sure how we (civil society) can discuss such issues without that happening.
