Should You Drive a Front or Rear Wheel Drive Ford?

Should You Drive a Front or Rear Wheel Drive Ford

?

Buying a car is more than just choosing which type of Ford you want to buy from our Maryland Ford dealership! Once you've decided between new or used, you need to make a decision about front or rear wheel drive, too. Which drive type is best for you?

To help you make a decision, Preston Ford offers the following information about the differences between rear wheel and front wheel drive cars:

Front Wheel Drive Cars

Front wheel drive vehicles are generally more fuel efficient than rear wheel drive. If you drive often in snow or ice covered roads, you'll find you have an easier time with front wheel drive because they slip less due to the weight being centered over the front wheels. This same feature can be cumbersome when the roads are clear, though, as front wheel drive cars are not as easily controlled as rear wheel drive.

Rear Wheel Drive Cars

Prior to the 1970s, almost all cars were made with rear wheel drive type. During the 1970s, front wheel drive became popular because they are more fuel efficient, but recently rear wheel cars are becoming common place again. Rear wheel drive type tends to give drivers more control than front wheel drive cars, particularly when the car is accelerating. This is ideal, since modern cars accelerate quickly and have more power than older cars did.

Which Drive Type Should You Choose?

Choose front or rear wheel drive Fords based on how you drive your car. Preston Motor has both drive types in the lot, and you can always test drive one of each to see which one you prefer before making your decision.
