Shoulder Pain Relief - Physical Therapy Is The Key For Effective Pain Elimination

Shoulder pain is the most common symptom to a variety of shoulder disorders and injuries

that is typically treated with anti inflammatory medications, cortisone injections, hot packs, ice packs, ultrasound and even surgery or manipulation in the most sever cases. However, only a program of physical therapy based on exercises for the rotator cuff or stretching is the only effective shoulder pain relief available.

A program of internal and external rotational exercises for the rotator cuff can tackle and cut down recovery times for the most stubborn Shoulder Impingement, Tendonitis and Bursitis or rehabilitate the cuff following a tear, a dislocation or surgery while naturally eliminating pain. A therapy program based on stretching can speed up recovery times for a Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis), one of the most afflicting and long lasting shoulder disorders.

Impingement, Tendonitis and Bursitis are inflammations of different areas of rotator cuff, the tendons and the bursa, a sack over which the tendons slide so as not rub against the shoulder bones. When both the tendons and the bursa become inflamed, the swollen tissues restrict the subacromial space within the shoulder joint, making movement difficult, painful and accompanied by a popping, clicking sensation. It is a self fueling disorder because it grows worse with normal daily activities, making the inflammation worse.

A Frozen Shoulder is instead caused by the adhesions of the capsule membrane surrounding the rotator cuff. The adhesions are thickened scars of tissues that physically restrict the normal mechanics of the shoulder joint, severely limiting and making impossible full range of motion, especially over head. Mundane tasks like shampooing, steering the car wheel or reaching for a high shelf become impossible and pain is always present, especially in the freezing phase, but also in the frozen and thawing phases.

Torn rotator cuffs, dislocations and surgery are also on the list of main causes of shoulder pain. A rehabilitative program of rotator cuff exercises can not only do just that, but also strengthen the four muscles and tendons of the cuff so as to prevent future injuries from occurring again. Indeed, such a pain relief program works just as well as a preventive measure against future injuries and disorders, not just as a remedial therapy. Pain is only the outward symptom of a disorder or an injury.

By relying only on anti inflammatory medication, or injection, or cold and hot packs, the root cause of the problem is not being dealt with and the weak rotator cuff is not set to heal faster and better. Instead, it will settle for an unhealthy dependency on medications. A shoulder pain relief program based on physical therapy breaks the vicious circle of dependency, strengthening the rotator cuff, loosening adhesions, eliminating inflammation and pain and cutting down recovery times to a fraction.

Sadly, it is a fact that all shoulder injuries and disorders take a long time to heal due to the complexity of the shoulder joint and the fact that we use it every day for all tasks. While immobility is not recommended, normal daily tasks can make the situation worse. However, specific exercises for rotator cuff disorders and injuries or stretching for the Frozen Shoulder can greatly reduce recovery times and work out as the best and most effective shoulder pain relief.
