Alcohol abuse is a preventable problem. In fact, other drug addiction cases can be avoided but most of the times, neglect and too much permissiveness causes negative results. Based on a survey conducted among teens in the US, 45 percent of the respondents stated that they obtain alcohol from their very own parents. Some of them got these drinks without permission while a number said that they consume alcohol along with their parents. This is an alarming situation considering that the very parents of these young teens are the perpetrators of a great and terrible substance addiction in the future.

The number of drug-related deaths especially on alcohol abuse is increasing. The United States Drunk Driving Statistics showed that among the fatal accidents reported, 32% of those are related to drunk driving. Even if stricter regulations are given in the country, the number of people who fall into addiction on alcohol and other medications are still increasing. They have a law referred as the "Implied Consent Law" which states that police authorities can stop a driver and perform alcohol tests when asked for. All those applying for a driver's license are required to sign an agreement before issuance of their license. Refusal to submit to random tests could mean suspension for a year.

Do stricter regulations mean lesser cases of addiction? The answer to this is still negative. Despite any efforts to curb substance addiction, the number of drug dependents is still on the rise. Many of those who are suffering from substance and drug addiction have a way back to living a normal and healthy life. Treatment can be sought in any drug rehab. Medical professionals in treatment facilities can help families and drug dependents in the best form of treatment that can be applied. Each addiction case is unique. Some may need inpatient treatment while others may prefer to have on and off visits to the treatment facilities.

When abuse is hinted from a loved one, it is important not to dwell on the negative side and lose hope on the addict. There is still a way out of addiction.
