Signing Record Deal

A few years back the main thing that any musicians worth his salt was after online was info about how to a recording contract

. But these days the more savvy musician realises that you do not need the big bucks a major label can supply to make it on the internet. All you really need is great music and the facility to put up a straightforward web site and write 1 or 2 mails to your fans.

But having said that I continue to think that there is something to be said for the big labels if they com knocking on your door because they basically provide funding to hire a selling company to do all of the leg work so you can chill :- )

Here is my 5 step system for getting a record deal in the current's music industry.

Step 1|- Go to your local record shop and look up the bands that you like most and you think you sound like.

Step 2 - Open up the sleeve and see what label they are signed to.

Step 3 - Get your manager to contact the AR dep. of the label and ask for a scout to come down and watch your show. ( ensure the gig is nice and close to the offices and try and book it on a Thursday night as music people don't like to go to gigs on the weekend. )

Step 4 - Get a killer set together which will affect the scout.

Step five - If the AR guy is keen on your gig he'll desire to line up a showcase which is generally a personal show where the record company enormous boys will decide if they're prepared to open their wallets.

If all goes well they're going to offer you an initial deal and then it will be up to your boss to be sure you get what you're worth and a little bit of liberty to make the music the way in which you desire.

*Note* I would recommend that you use this strategy with second tier record companies at first and then test your luck with he larger boys once you have one or two singles and a good sales track record under you belt.

Most large labels wish to see that you've had some success on your own before taking the danger and offering you a big advance.

For me the idea of getting a record deal is a giant turn off at the moment...

...and that's mainly because I've spent a lot of time learning automatic music marketing strategies, which means I can just spend some time making music...

Press two buttons...

And hey presto...

....all the promoting is done and the new fans pore into my website.

Why pay a recording 80% of your CD sales when you can immediately do all of the selling yourself and bypass all of the crap that comes from selling our to please your label.
