Patients with IC can complain of either cyclic or constant pelvic pain. They may also complain of vaginal burning and/ or painful intercourse. Bladder symptoms are often increased with intercourse and near the menses. Symptoms of IC can mimic some gynecologic disorders, particularly endometriosis.

Frequent urinationIncreased frequency can plague IC patients day and night. Patients with severe cases may go to the bathroom as many as 60 times a day, while those with mild IC may be able to sleep through the night without interruption.

Urgent urinationNear constant urgency is common among IC patients, who may also experience painful bladder spasms.

PainPain in the pelvic area, bladder, urethra or vagina may be constant and intense or come and go in waves.

Other chronic conditionsConditions such as irritable bowel syndrome and fibromyalgia commonly co-exist with IC, although any connection between these conditions and IC remains unclear.

Bladder pain that intensifies as it fills and then goes away upon voiding, only to immediately return again;

Inability to completely empty bladder;

Breakdown of the bladder tissue without the presence of infection;

Extreme frequency of urination, often every few minutes;

Strong unpleasant smell in urine;

Painful sexual intercourse;

Blood in the urine;

Digestive problems;

Low grade fever;

Recurrent vaginal yeast infections;

Joint pain and swollen glands;

Thyroid problems;

Severe food allergies which trigger bladder pain;
