Simple Painting Tips That Will Make Your Project Easier

Besides using the U-Stripe It & Design Tool for striping and accent marks in your living space

, there are a number of other simple tips that will help make your painting project run much more smoothly.

Here are five easy tips that might be overlooked:

Choke up, slugger. Who hasn't nicked the ceiling with a roller, frustrating yourself to no end with doing touch ups? To avoid hitting the ceiling with the roller, choke up on the extended pole. That way, in combination with your stance that allows for your arms to fully extend, the roller stops just short of the ceiling.

Prime up your primer. Tint the primer with the color of paint that will serve as your topcoat. Doing so enhances the primer's coverage of the prepped surface. Plus, it should help you in getting your project done in a timely manner.

Running out of time? Ziplock it. If you're nearly done for the day or have to leave in the middle of a project, wrap your brush or paint roller tightly in a ziploc bag and place in the freezer. The temperatures and low humidity in your freezer will prevent the paint from drying on them and believe it or not you can store it for up to a year and it will be good to go when you resume!

Your switch plates don't just turn on lights. Ever finish painting a room and needed to touch up at later date but when you resume, you realize you either don't have enough paint leftover or you tossed the cans? Avoid the headaches: record what brand of paint, the color and the corresponding number for those special hues and record them inside the back of light switch plate. By putting it on your switch plates instead of your paint cans, you'll never lose the information.

Running on fumes. You've been painting for hours but it's too cold to paint with the windows open and thus, getting a headache from the fumes? Add some vanilla extract to your latex paint can. Rule of thumb: calculate how many quarts of paint you have and add four drops of vanilla extract.

Understandably, there are numerous other tips to share but these five simple suggestions will go a long way to making your next painting object go smoothly.
