Simple Tips for Book Binding

Bookbinding is a process which is aimed to bind loose pages into a book. If you master the method of bookbinding, you can easily make a compilation of your poems or short stories into a book for your collection. Here you can learn how to bind your loose pages into a decent result.

Before you start learning how to bind a book, you should prepare all the things you will need. The common tools which you will need include heavy needle, awl punch, waxed thread, and spring clips. If you have those tools in your hand, you can go to the following steps.

One: measure the cover stock

The cover stock should have the same size as your loose pages. With exact measurement, you will have a neat result. Then, cut it based on your measurement. Choose one as the front cover. Leave inch in from the left-hand edge of that front cover and then bend that cover stock to fold the stock. It will make the cover open easily.

Furthermore, you also need to measure the front cover stock inch down from the top and the bottom of that cover. Mark it and then measure the distance between those two marks. Then, divide that space into thirds equally and mark it for the holes and threads.

Two: stack the pages

After you measure the cover for your book, you need to stack the pages on top of your back cover. On top of the pages, you have to place the front cover. Hereafter, tap the edges of the stack and have everything lined up well.

Three: hold the stack

After all are ready, you need to keep everything in place by using spring clips. Make sure that there is no single part slip out of place. Then, punch holes through the front covers, the paper sheets, and the back cover.

Four: sew the book

After you have made the holes, you have to tread the needle and then sew it. You can start it from the center of the holes to the bottom and top edge.
