One of the number one enemies of any kind of drivers on the road is sleepiness

. This has been a cause of many accidents on the road from then till now. It is said that truck drivers, especially those who drives long distance is more likely to feel sleepy along the way due to long hours of driving and tiredness. This is something that truck drivers are trying to accomplish without using any drugs.

Over the road, it's not only truck drivers who struggle in feeling sleepy while driving, even those who drives passenger vehicles also needs to deal with this issue. It is important for a driver to stay awake and alert all the time, because if they fall asleep while driving, they are not only putting their life on danger but as well as the life of other people on the road.

When you feel sleepy while driving, it will be better to stop and get out of your truck. Try to have even a short distance walk. By getting out of the truck, this will cause your body to move and will awaken your senses. Walking will make your blood pumps and the change of scenery will help your mind refocus. After few minutes, about 10-15, your body must be rejuvenated and you are now ready to go back to your truck and continue driving.

Another simple way to fight sleepiness on the road is by planning to drive during your normal waking hours if possible. Because if you drive during your sleeping hours, expectedly, you will feel sleepy because your body clock will tell you that you are suppose to be sleeping at that time.


It will also be helpful if you schedule your trip so you can take a break every two hours or so. Taking a nap for few minutes will help you to feel refreshed. Just make sure that it won't last more than 40 minutes because its effect will no longer be as good.

Try not to eat heavy meals before driving. Heavy meals will surely make one feel sleepy. Just eat enough food and it will better if you just bring some fruits or veggies to snack on while on the go to avoid being hungry along the way.

Make sure to take enough fluids. Water will always work best. Caffeinated drinks will also help but it didn't take effect right away, it will take few minutes before it takes effect. Drinking coffee will not make you awake immediately.


Driving with someone is also very good to fight sleepiness while driving. This is also one reason why many couples succeed in team driving. Aside from the fact that they have someone to share their job with and have time to rest, this also makes their driving experience more fun and enjoyable.

With all those simple tips, we can say that staying awake and alert while driving is possible even without drugs. Sometimes, the best and effective ways are those simple ones. So maybe, the next time you go driving and feel sleepy, you can try one of those simple tips that I mention.
