Simple Tips for a Healthy Life through Physical Activity and Proper Nutrition


When is the last you had a walk to a park? Can you remember the last time you walked to the workplace or took the bicycle? Are you puffing and panting when you get up to the third floor of your building? If the only way of going to the local grocery store is by taking a car then you should start questioning yourself.

Physical inactivity is the main source of the most common diseases today, and some of them can even lead to death. Being fat is not the only element by which you can measure your physical fitness level. There are lots of other elements like endurance, strength, flexibility or cardiovascular capacity.

Ignoring these elements for an extended period of time is doing nothing good for your health. Each of us should take better care of our fitness because being fit not only means to have a great looking, muscular and shaped body. Being fit also means to have more physical and mental energy and to cope better with stress situations. This can have many benefits on our job performance and gives us more quality time to spend with our families and friends because of the increased energy level.


The road to fitness should not always be hard. Including more walk into your daily activities is a good start. Take a walk to a park, avoid taking a car when you go to a grocery store. Go with a bicycle to your workplace or get out one bus stop earlier and walk to work for the last stop. As little as 30 minutes of a walk per day can have great benefits to your health and overall fitness.

On weekends, you may even consider going to a gym. Adding weight training to your fitness plan is beneficial for strength and muscle growth. Muscles are important for burning calories even when you are at rest because muscle tissue burns more calories than fat tissue. Losing weight by calorie restriction is wrong because you will lose fat, but you will also lose muscles in the progress. It will be tougher to maintain your new weight, and it will be even harder in the future to lose excess of pounds.

Proper nutrition should always be included in your fitness plan. Skipping meals, eating junk and processed food and over eating once or twice per day is wrong. You should eat less but more frequently, 4-5 times per day. Eat more fruits, green vegetables and whole-grain food. Don't avoid carbohydrates but rather switch bad carbs for good carbs. Avoid consuming sodas and flavored drinks and drink water instead.

Keep in mind that getting fit is not something you need to do once and never again. To get fit and stay fit you'll need to change some of your habits for good.
