Filtration An Essential Process

In the present age of modern technology, filtration has become an essential process and is mainly used in the industrial sector. Sinter metal filters have found a widespread use in a variety of applications such as chemical manufacturing, ceramic production plants and petrochemical plants and water treatment plants. Filtration is in fact a mechanical or physical operation that is utilized for separation of solids from liquids or gases by passing them through a medium that is popularly known as a filter. In fact, filtration process removes impurities and other solids from various materials such as liquids, gas or water and chemicals. A filter aid may be used to help in the filtration process.

Processing of Sinter Metal Filters

The process of sintering is extensively used for creating articles from its base material resident in powder. These are produced by blending metal elemental or alloy powders and compressing the mixture in a die following which the shapes are then heated or sintered in a controlled environment furnace in order to bond the particles. The particles join together and create a porous structure that permits the flow of any gas, air or liquid to pass through without disturbing the structure which is strong in its quality and handles particle above micron rating. These types of elements are backwashed for some time for cleaning purposes in order to remove the deposit of particle load. As a result, sinter metal filters are absolutely solid and are rugged, being able to withstand extreme differential pressures across the filters.

Variety of Applications

There are a large variety of filters that are being used in the industrial sector. These filters are mostly used for hot gas filtration where hot gases are cleansed through the filtration process which is known as hot gas filtration. Some of the filtering objects that are used widely are filter bags, compact band filter, cartridge filters and coolant filters. One of the most widely use application of the filter is in the automotive industry where the coolant filter cleans the coolant liquid that is used for cooling the automobile engine. The filters that are used for industrial purpose are disposable filters as they can not be used repeatedly. However, there is extensive use of filters for automotive filtration and stream filtration where various fluids are siphoned and cleaned of impurities. In a similar vein, sewage and water treatment plants use filters for purifying the water supply for distribution to the general public.
