Skyrocketing AR15 Rifle Sales & Why You Should Build Your Own

Why has civilian sales of the AR15 style rifle skyrocket in the past 3 years? Two relevent events triggered an increase in sales in all types of firearms across the nation. It started with 9/11, when terrorist abroad struck our nation in a way we could never imagine. Americans learned that we were easily infiltrated with fanatics from abroad andthat they can strike anywhere and at anytime when we'd least expect it. A second recent event struck the country more so than 9/11, it was the election of President Barack Obama on November 4th, 2008 and his policies that would infringeonthose that believe in the constitution's second ammendment "That protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms". President Obama wanted to restrict firearm access, he supports re-instating a permanent ban on assault type weapons which expired in 2001, running background checks on law abiding citizens that want to buy a gun, registering ammunition issued to citizens and banning all online purchases of ammunition.

The latter event struck fear with firearms enthusiast and those that support the second ammendment that it would be impossible for civilians to ever be able to own one of America's favorite rifle icon, the AR15, aka M16. The AR15 was born in 1957 by Eugene Stoner, its creator. The rifle was used in the Vietnam era in the late 1960's to the ousting of Saddam Hussein in the 1990's to today in the hunt for Osama Binladen. Not only does the military use it, almost all of US Law Enforcement officers use them as they are easily seen with the rifles distinctive triangle shape front sight post known as the A2 front sight pointing straight up aslaw enforcement officerscruise by in theirsquad cars. The AR15 is an American icon of rifles and many firearms enthusiast sought to own this rifle and add it to their collection. The election of President Obama triggered record sales in the last 3 years because of his intended policies on revamping firearms laws.

New names in the manufacturing of AR15 parts popped out of nowhere to catch the wave of sales sweeping the nation as parts became scarce because manufacturers couldn't keep pace with demand. Americans purchased AR15 rifles and parts as if they were going extinct. Prices increased rapidly on complete rifles and civilians turned to building the rifle themselves to save money. All parts to an AR15 rifle must follow specific specifications so components that make up the rifle are universal to other brands which made it easy to build one from scratch. A person could save anywhere from $400 or more by building the rifle themselves. A seasoned AR15 enthusiast can assemble one in 30 minutes. Many local gun stores now stock parts and carry fully built versions of the AR15 for those that are less mechanically inclined. Gun stores that never carried these rifles nor their parts saw that they're missing a huge chunk of the market and quickly sought to carry parts and rifles to increase their missed revenues. Not only parts were scarce, ammunition for this rifle was also scarce. Americans purchased ammo in bulk and prices increased almost twice fold. Rumor had it that ammunition was being used up in U.S. military campaigns abroad in Iraq and Afganistan thus an ammo shortage at home was in effect. Ammo manufacturers increased capital to meet this demand for our troops overseas and the demand for civilian sales at home. Shelves at local stores then became stocked with the popular AR15 cartridge which is the 5.56mm or .223 Remington round.

Sales has finally reached a plateau and ammunition becoming plentiful. So go out and enjoy owning one of America's favorite rifle while you still can. And if you want, build one yourself. This will definately increase your confidence on its function and will have the knowledge to repair it yourself should something go wrong. Enjoy owning a legendary AR15 rifle before its too late to own one and most importantly, enjoy your right to keep and bear arms and also to protect you and your love ones should the need arise and have the confidence knowing that whatever you ask of your rifle, it will deliver.
