Trying to lose those extra pounds but just can't seem to get where you want to be
? You may be surprised to know sleep can sabotage your dieting efforts. The affects of sleep on the body are many. So much so that research is constantly being done to find out just what happens in the body when a person doesn't sleep enough, or well when they do sleep.
When it comes to weight, it has been found that lack of sleep leads to overeating during your waking hours. The reason could be as simple as that when you are groggy, you pay less attention. You've probably had those days where you get to work but can't remember the drive. This should never happen after a good night's sleep!
The sleep-weight connection is actually more complex than that, though. There is actually a link between sleep and the hormones that regulate eating behaviors. There are two hormones in the brain that influence eating: Ghrelin and Leptin. Ghrelin tells you that you are hungry; Leptin tells you when to stop eating. Sleep deprived people have increased levels of Ghrelin and decreased levels of Leptin. Hence the feeling of wanting to eat is stronger in the sleep deprived; and the ability to know when to stop is weakened.
To maintain the proper hormone balances, you've got to make sure you are sleeping better at night. To do this, you need to figure out reasons why you may not be sleeping properly. Oftentimes it is the mattress that is to blame. Especially for people who may have back problems or other aches and pains, natural mattresses are highly recommended.
Natural mattresses are those that are made of natural materials, such as latex, memory foam or cotton. Some natural mattresses are made of wool as well. The organic mattress is one that does not contain chemicals, and is made from materials that are sustainable and sometimes even biodegradable. The memory foam is an organic mattress that is biodegradable.
Eco-friendliness is not the only reason to purchase an organic mattress, though. The ultimate reason is to get the best possible sleep you can get. The memory foam mattress and the latex organic mattress are two of the most popular options available today. Both hold their form extremely well. Neither off-gasses harmful chemicals into the air you breathe; and both give you an extremely comfortable sleeping surface that results in better sleep.
There may be other reasons why you may not sleep well. Perhaps you need to alter what you eat before bed, or even after lunch. However, much of the time, the mattress you sleep on is the real culprit stealing your sleep. At some point in your life, you will be replacing the mattress you sleep on. That time may need to be now; if you find that you are not getting the sleep you really need. Changing this part of your home may be more rewarding than you have ever imagined; and may be the key to dropping pounds like never before.
