Basement is a great idea to make additional space to your home. To some families, basement is only used for keeping some items or furniture which is no longer used. Then, you can start remodeling your basement by measuring the area by using the measuring tape. Write down the measurement for the future planning. You can sketch the floor plan including stairs, electrical outlets, partitions, heating units, and laundry facilities. Also, you have to sketch the furniture you want in that room such as bookshelves, benches, etc.

After you have finished sketching your living space to be, you can decide the decorating scheme. You can pick any color you prefer for it. In addition, you can also add the storage space for any items you want, such as Christmas decoration, luggage, and some other items.

Stair case is another important thing. You have to make sure that it is accessible and safe. Fix any defects, such as the handrail. Make sure that it is tight to the wall and easy to grasp. If you use carpet for you stair, you have to make sure that there is no thread worn out. Worn out thread can pose you to a risk of stumbling. In addition, you also have to make sure that the lighting is adequate.

Decide the flooring for your new space. There are a lot of flooring options available for you including tile, wood, carpeting, and laminate flooring. Polished cement will work as well. Instead of flooring, you have to consider the ceiling. You can choose the ceiling either dry wall or suspended ceiling.
