Snowboard Sizing

Basically, in the initial days, the size of a person's snowboard was determined by the person's height

. There was a formula used to calculate the size of the snow board based on the height of the individual. It was Height (in inches) X 2.54 X 0.88 = board length. This would then give the expected size of the snowboard. However, times have changed and this formula is no longer used in the determination of a person's snow board will be determined by their personal weight, the terrain they will be snow boarding and their own personal preferences. This is basically referred to as Snowboard Sizing.

It is much easier to control a longer snowboard, especially when moving at high speeds on the slopes. In contrast, a snow board that's much shorter will be easier to maneuver and will enable a lower swing weight while snowboarding in the park or elsewhere. There is a now a chart that has been developed that provides the various snow board sizes for individuals. These will basically vary and will be determined by the person's height, weight, slope or terrain and preferences.

There are basically two different types of snowboards. These are the freestyle snowboard and the free rife snowboard. A ride will choose their preferred snowboard such as the freestyle or free rider and then check the chart for the appropriate board size depending on other factors aforementioned. Some provide different measurements for women and for the men. There are some other factors that snowboarders will need to consider as well. These include the individual capabilities. There are beginners, intermediate snowboard riders as well as advanced or pro riders. Their Snowboard Sizing needs will vary basically.

Beginners will need to purchase snowboards that are indicated for beginners. Each model of snowboard manufactured will indicate the level it is targeted to. Individuals who have been to the mountain less than 8 times will be referred to as beginners while those who have had an experience of between 8 and ten times will basically be referred to as intermediaries. Advanced riders on the other hand can handle most terrains. These include back country, the pipe and the regular park.

Many other factors will determine the appropriate Snowboard Sizing for individuals regardless of their professional status. Snow boards will basically be easier to maneuver is they are lighter in weight and shorter in length. However, different individuals have different preferences and it is these individual preferences that will ultimately determine the type of snowboard an individual rider will acquire.
