Social Media Tips - How Authors Can Increase Book Sales and Speaking Engagements
I am dipping my toe into the social networking world as I attempt to broaden my reach. My books have not sold well over traditional marketing streams, but have enjoyed ever increasing sales through social media sites. Despite being a business consultant who assists businesses with integrating Web 2.0 strategies into their marketing funnel, I am still in the formative stages of using social sites to "spread the word." I say this tongue in cheek because I am ever-present on all of the major sites, but I still do not consider my time as huge. Why? I have embraced the use of time management tools for using sites like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
I am also Twittering, all automatically via scheduled tweets though HootSuite, and am surprised to find a new follower every couple of days.
It is my hope that I'll learn more how to use social networking -- without being obnoxious or intrusive--in such a way as to hit that tipping point and reach thousands/ millions with my message.
I use social media sites for business marketing. My favorite so far has been LinkedIn, which has been very helpful in making business contacts (I'm an author, consultant, speaker, and magazine writer). In fact, my most recent book on business startup strategies has had a huge selling over the social media landscape. Not only has this book been a huge success for my business, but I have also enjoyed receiving an increasing amount of publishing and speaking opportunities.
More recently, I have been using LinkedIn, Facebook, and SpeakerSite to make connections for writing contracts and magazine articles, as well as for PR for my upcoming Internet marketing book.
