Softball Coaching Tips Building Players Confidence

At the start of almost every season, youll have new players who have the potential

to become good softball players, but somehow lack the confidence to turn that potential into reality. Its perfectly understandable, of course, because they dont know yet what theyre capable of doing.

Your job as a coach, then, is to develop your players confidence so that they can surpass their self-perceived limits and play the game with ease and tons of enjoyment. But how do you do it? There are a number of ways that Ill share with you with these softball coaching tips.

Motivate Them

Motivation is the key to making your players perform their best on the field. You can do this by learning how to communicate with them well. Know why theyre lacking in confidence, find the root of the problem and solve it. Once you have it nailed, youll know which buttons to push to help them overcome that lack of confidence.

Show Them How to Play the Game Well

Showing your players the proper softball skills and mechanics will give them the confidence that, indeed, they can do things right on the field. Lack of confidence among softball players is usually rooted in the frustration that they cant perform as well as they expected. And the obvious way of reversing this perception is by teaching them how to make things right.

Provide Them with Positive Feedback

Be generous with your praises when you see your players getting better at their game. Nothing beats positive feedback when it comes to building a players confidence.

What should you do when theyre not doing something right? One things for sure: never insult them, especially in front of their teammates. It will definitely deflate their self worth and confidence. Instead, tell them about their errors in private, and at the same time, show them how they can turn things around the next time. It doesnt just prevent future errors, but it also shows your players that they always have the chance to perform better.

Make Them Realize That Mistakes are a Part of the Game

Errors are one sure way of shooting down your players self-confidence. In worst cases, they might start blaming themselves or their teammates for these errors. Dont let this happen to your team.

Instead, make them realize that making mistakes is a part of the deal not only in softball games, but in life in general. Show them to view mistakes as a chance to learn something new, and that its never the end of the world when they commit errors. Always give your players the chance to prove themselves on the next game.

Building your players self-confidence is probably one of the best things you can do as a softball coach. Thats because youre not just arming them to become confident players on the field but also in their lives outside of softball. So use every chance that you get to build your players confidence through the softball coaching tips I shared with you. They will surely thank you later on in life.
