Softball Coaching Tips Why Do You Coach Softball?
Some people say that those who coach softball are crazy
. Because when you look at it at first, the negative things far outweigh the benefits of becoming a softball coach.
For one, you have to deal with parents who like to meddle, especially in the younger age groups. Most parents think that their kid is good enough to become the teams star player. And they also have tons of advice on how you can coach the team better (and hinting their kid is a part of the ingredient).
Then, there are egos you have to deal with. When your players get a little bit older, their parents no longer come into the picture, but then, their egos start coming in the way. Big egos caus rifts in teams, and if you dont know how to handle them, then, you teams doomed.
And finally, theres the lack of funds. Most coaches work with teams that dont have big sponsors. And since their team lacks the financial support, they take it from their own pockets. They spend their own money to buy their teams uniform, their gear, and sometimes even their travel money.
There are of course other major things that cause most softball coaches headaches. But the ones I listed are by far the most common major issues coaches have to deal with.
So why do softball coaches stick to what they do? Here are some of the reasons:
Theyre Crazy about the Game
People who call softball coaches crazy are partly right. You need to be really crazy about the game if you want to survive in this kind of job. Youre not just poor. You also become the emotional punching bag of players and their parents.
But if you really love the game, its easy to forget about these negative things and just focus on what you do best coaching. So who cares when people call you crazy? Im sure you dont.
They Want to Help People Succeed
The best coaches are natural mentors. And as mentors, theres no greater reward than seeing their trainees turn into great players. It takes a lot of dedication to become a softball coach, and its no joke teaching players how to throw the ball, swing the bat and lots of other stuff day in and day out. But at the end of the day, its the fulfillment that counts for them.
They Take the Negative Things as a Challenge
Not everybody looks negatively at the things I mentioned above. For some coaches, they treat it as a challenge to be able to overcome these things and build solid players and teams out of the situation. Again, its hard work, but if its what keeps your heart pumping, then, nobody could argue with that.
Softball coaches may have their own reasons for taking up one of the most thankless jobs in the world. However, if youre really are crazy about the game and love sharing your knowledge with softball players, then, youre welcome to take the job. Its the kind of self-fulfillment that only a few things can ever equal.
