Solar Wind Turbine: Why Use Both?

In the world of renewable energy resources, it is becoming very popular to set up or buy asolar wind turbine, versus either technology separately

. There are strong reasons why these technologies operate very well in concert that need to be considered if you are looking at either of the renewable energy options separately.

For years these two technologies have competed for the public's buying dollar. The competitive forces that drive commercial enterprises tried to make you choose one or the other. Are you a wind power or a solar power person? Does the area in which you live offer better resources for solar energy or for wind energy? These were the standard questions.

As it turns out, these are really the wrong questions to be asking. You don't have to choose one or the other. Actually, the question should be: How can I use wind and solar power in combination to extract the most energy from my environment? That is the only way to cut the most out of your home power bill that you can.

The reasons these solar wind turbine technologies are complementary and not mutually exclusive are:

These two forces of nature are almost always present together. In other words, since the sun really creates the wind in the first place, when you see a lot of sun, you are likely to have a lot of wind available as well at some point in the day. This is certainly not always the case, but the opportunity is there in most cases to take advantage of both power sources.

Home wind turbine and solar collector manufacturers have caught on this, too. They are increasingly creating products that combine the two technologies in one piece of easily-installable equipment. This is the way renewable energy should be pursued moving forward - these sources of latent power should be looked at as complimentary.

Even if you don't opt for the efficiency of an all-in-one device in a single solar wind turbine, you can still take advantage of both by installing both forms of power harvesting on your property somewhere.

All in all, as time marches on, circumstances are going to likely force us to consider all our alternatives for power production. As our fossil fuels continue to rapidly dissipate, we are going to have to scrounge for all the scraps of power in our natural environment to make the electricity our world depends on now.
