When we were all little we heard about bed bugs but many of us just laughed them off as one of those tales

. Now we are older and we know that they really exist. In fact, many of us have had to suffer through their attacks! Now, tired of being their meal, we ask ourselves: how do we stop bed bug bites?

There's a lot of bad information circulating in the air and some of it sounds so plausible it just might be true but one thing is for sure: bed bugs do not eat dead skin that we shed while we're asleep. Something does, but it's not these little creatures. Instead, these bugs are a blood ingesting insect that leaves little, red, and itchy bumps on our skin. They're just as bad as the common mosquito, but because they're smaller they leave smaller marks.

Now that we know what one of these bites looks like we can look into ways to get rid of them. The most common way of ridding your home of these insects is with pesticides. There are a wide variety of different kinds of pesticides, but it is important to get ones that are specific them them, as they are resilient to many different types. In addition to this you must keep in mind that these critters are usually most comfortable nesting in furniture, so any sprays or powders you use must not irritate skin, have a foul odor, or be harmful to pets. This can make the search for a proper pesticide very difficult.

High temperatures can get rid of them. If at all possible, you can use your homes heater to heat your house to 120 degrees Fahrenheit for twenty minutes and your house will be bed bug free. This will kill them in all stages of life.

If you are unable to do that you can used a steam cleaner on furniture and in the crannies you think they are likely to hide. This can be time consuming but ultimately more convenient. Remember, you can rent house hold cleaning products rather than having to purchase them. The dryer can help too.

There is another method called the Barrier method. In this method you secure furniture items with double sided duct tape and petroleum jelly. As these critters can't cross either of these protective seals you'll somewhat keep them from your furniture. That isn't to say they won't find other ways but a deterrent is a deterrent.

There are many ways you can take when you're trying to stop bed bug bites. All you can do is pick the one that works the best for you and stick with it. Good luck getting rid of those blood sucking critters!
